Who can use ExpressCare?

Anyone.  For Virtual ExpressCare, you must be in New York State at the time of the visit.

How does Virtual ExpressCare work?

ExpressCare is really easy to use and works best on fast and stable internet connections like Wi-Fi or LTE. Please make sure to have your video-enabled iPhone, iPad or Android device for these steps. We also need you to be in a safe and quiet indoor location before starting. ExpressCare works best on Safari, Chrome, and Edge.

  • Go to expresscare.nyc to launch a visit from your mobile device or computer and click the Talk to a Provider Now button.
  • When your browser asks for microphone and video permission, click ALLOW.
  • You will then see a NYC Health + Hospitals support hero who will help you register and can also help you get insurance or NYC Care and enroll in MyChart so you can manage your care from anywhere.
  • An ExpressCare provider will then treat you and coordinate next steps.
Are telehealth visits private and secure?

All ExpressCare telehealth visits take place over a secure line, and your privacy is assured.

How do I access my visit information?

A support hero can help you sign up for MyChart, NYC Health + Hospitals’ secure patient portal.  If you already have MyChart, you can sign-in to your account. MyChart allows you to:

  • Access information from your virtual or in-person visit
  • Review your medical records and notes from the provider visit
  • Refill your medication
  • Message your provider privately
  • Pay bills
  • Schedule follow-up appointments

To learn more about MyChart, visit https://epicmychart.nychhc.org/MyChart/

If I am waiting for an ExpressCare provider, do I have to wait in the internet browser window?

Yes. It is really important to wait in the waiting room in your browser.  Otherwise, ExpressCare may lose microphone and video permissions from your device and ExpressCare provider or staff will be unable to hear or see you.  If this happens, please wait for ExpressCare provider or staff to reconnect with you.  You should see a text message or email to enter a video visit or you may receive a phone call.

If I am disconnected from the provider or support hero, what should I do?

If you are in a video visit that is disconnected, please use the reconnect button in the post-visit screen. If you in a phone or audio visit that is disconnected, please wait for ExpressCare provider or staff to call you back.

I have questions about my bill. Who can I talk to?

If you have additional questions or would like to update your insurance information, call 844-692-4692 (844-NYC-4NYC). Our agents are available at that number Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You may also receive a call from our billing team.

Why is ExpressCare out-of-network with my plan?

Out-of-network service and benefit coverage can vary based on contract status, geographic location, or the type of care visit. While we are contracted with most insurance plans, we always recommend giving your health insurance plan provider a call to confirm your coverage and benefits. The number can be found on your plan card.

If I receive a bill, how do I pay it?

Patients can also utilize MyChart to make a payment, set up a payment plan or communicate with a Billing Inquiry Advisor for questions or disputes about their bills.

What do I do if I receive a bill and I have insurance?

When you come in for your visit, our ExpressCare support hero will take your insurance information and quickly check the status of your coverage with your insurance provider. There may be times when an insurance plan can’t be verified. For example, your insurance information may be inaccurate or out of date, or the insurance company’s eligibility system may not respond.

In cases where we are unable to verify your insurance at the time of your visit, we will send you a bill for this service.

If you have additional questions or would like to update your insurance information, call 844-692-4692 (844-NYC-4NYC). Our agents are available at that number Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. You may also receive a call from our billing team.

What are co-pays?

A co-pay, short for copayment, is a fixed amount that your insurance requires you to pay for medical services. The remaining balance is covered by your insurance company. Co-pays vary for different services. Co-pays for standard doctor visits are typically lower than those for specialists. Note that copays for emergency room visits tend to be the highest.

What if I don’t have insurance?

If patients cannot afford to pay or are uninsured, Virtual ExpressCare will provide care and connect patients to trained financial counselors who can help them enroll in health insurance coverage or financial assistance through NYC Care, Medicaid, and Medicare, with per visit fees as low as $0, depending on patients’ income and family size.

Do you accept my insurance?

ExpressCare accepts most insurance plans. Patients with insurance may need to pay a copay depending on their insurance coverage. Without insurance, you may qualify for an insurance option or NYC Care. For a list of accepted insurance plans, please see Available Insurance plans at expresscare.nyc. This information is updated periodically and is subject to change; please check with your health plan to verify coverage.
